The UK announced the supply of 650 Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) in a £162 million package to Ukraine.
The air defence package announced by Defence Secretary John Healey MP today at the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) meeting at US Air Force Base in Ramstein.
John Healey confirmed that £300 million worth of artillery ammunition, procured by the IFU, will begin delivery by the end of this year. The first batch of LMM missiles is also expected to be delivered by the end of the year.
Built by Thales, the 650 LMM missiles can be launched from a variety of platforms on land, at sea, and in the air. Designed to engage a wide range of targets, these missiles can counter unmanned aerial vehicles, fast-moving boats, and ground vehicles.
According to the press release, the package is primarily funded through the UK’s £3 billion annual support for Ukraine and contributions from Norway via the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU). Additionally, a new treaty will enable Ukraine to access £3.5 billion in export finance to bolster its war effort.
