The U.S. Army, in cooperation with Patria, demonstrated the Patria NEMO 120 mm Turreted Mortar System on September 10. Integrated onto a U.S.-made Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) and Fire Direction System (FCD), the system completed various fire missions using U.S. mortar ammunition.
This demonstration marks a key step in the U.S. Army’s effort to provide Armoured and Stryker Brigade Combat Teams with a rapid, precise indirect and direct fire capability while ensuring the protection of the crew. The system also aims to reduce physical strain, impulse noise effects, and blast overpressure on soldiers. Since 2020, Patria has worked with the U.S. Army on a feasibility study and conducted Foreign Comparative Testing (FCT) of the NEMO system.
The Patria NEMO is a remote-controlled 120 mm mortar system that can perform both direct and indirect fire missions, even while moving. It can execute multiple rounds simultaneous impact (MRSI) fire missions with up to six rounds hitting the target simultaneously. The system is protected, lightweight, and adaptable for various platforms, including light chassis, wheeled armored vehicles, and naval vessels.
The Patria NEMO, integrated on the AMPV, will be showcased at the AUSA exhibition in Washington, D.C., from 14-16 October 2024.
