Sirens were activated in Haifa, Acre, and surrounding towns in northern Israel today following a barrage of rockets fired from Lebanon.
Reports indicate that Hezbollah launched over 100 rockets towards Haifa, Acre, and other communities in the Western Galilee. The rocket fire resulted in several impacts in Kirya Am, Kiryat Motzkin, Haifa, and surrounding areas.
The Iron Dome air defense system intercepted dozens of rockets during the attack, observers said.
This attack comes in the wake of Hezbollah's recent losses, including the death of its Secretary General, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, in an Israeli airstrike.
Naim Qassem, Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary General, confirmed in a statement that the group is currently without a leader, stating that a new Secretary General will be elected soon. “We will achieve the election of a Secretary-General based on the procedures we have in our organization, and we will announce who it is once it happens…Don’t forget, the circumstances are difficult and complex based on this war. God willing, it will happen soon,” Qassem said.
On Monday, the group fired Fadi 1 missiles at Israel's Karmal military base in Haifa, injuring 12 people and causing damage to buildings in Haifa and Tiberias. Israel confirmed that 135 projectiles were fired by late Monday, with two Israeli soldiers killed in an earlier attack at Maroun al-Ras.
Hezbollah has justified the attacks as a response to Israeli actions against people in Gaza. The organization has an estimated force of about 100,000 fighters.
