Russian Forces Trick Patriot Air Defense System into Revealing Position, Destroy it

A U.S.-made Patriot air defense system (ADS) was destroyed in Ukraine after Russian forces repeatedly fired missiles in its direction forcing to reveal its position and launching two Iskander missiles at it.

Today afternoon, the Iskander-M OTRK crew destroyed an entire division of MIM-104 Patriot SAM systems near Dnepropetrovsk with two ballistic missiles. Objective control means recorded the successful destruction of an important target, various Russian media said.

The positional area of the American SAM system was identified by repeated launches of air defense missiles. The stationary position of the launchers made it possible to determine the coordinates of the Patriot and deliver a precise strike.

“As a result of the strike, the AN/MPQ-65 multifunctional radar station, the AN/MSQ-104 combat control cabin, the Patriot SAM launcher and the personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' anti-aircraft missile division were destroyed. Another Patriot SAM launcher was damaged,” comments on the strike by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The secondary detonation of one of the launchers led to additional losses among the Ukrainian personnel trained to handle the Patriot system.

The destroyed battery created serious interference for Russian troops, preventing them from delivering precise strikes on enemy military facilities in Dnepropetrovsk and Pavlograd. After today's successful arrival of the Iskanders, we can expect a series of precise strikes on important targets in this area, media reports said.
