The first sea trials for the Amiral Ronarc'h, the lead vessel of France's FDI (Frégates de Défense et d'Intervention) program, commenced in Lorient, France.
Commissioned by the Armament General Directorate (DGA), this frigate is designed for the French Navy, following the launches of two FDI frigates for the Hellenic Navy—HS Kimon in October 2023 and HS Nearchos on 19 September 2024. The trials, conducted from the Naval Group's Lorient site, will assess navigation, propulsion, and combat systems in real operational environments.
As the first digital and cyber-secure multi-role combat frigate, the Amiral Ronarc'h offers advanced capabilities, including anti-ship, anti-air, and anti-submarine operations. This innovative frigate is equipped with the latest French naval technologies, offering 360-degree threat detection and powerful weapons systems, including Exocet MM40 anti-ship missiles and ASTER anti-aircraft missiles.
The FDI frigates feature digital architecture, enabling adaptability to evolving threats and operational requirements. The Amiral Ronarc'h's sea trials will serve as a reference for future FDI units destined for both the French and Hellenic Navies.
