RAM-System GmbH has been awarded two contracts worth €244.5 million and $137 million to supply the German Navy with additional Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Block 2B Guided Missile Round Packs.

This modification to contract includes the procurement of special tooling and test equipment. The purchase is made entirely for the German Navy under a cooperative Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The project is expected to be completed by November 2031.

German Defense Budget Approval:

On September 25, the budget committee of the German Bundestag approved the acquisition of new Rolling Airframe Missile Block 2B systems worth €372.6 million for the German Navy and Air Force. This acquisition is aimed at enhancing air defense capabilities on frigates, corvettes, and Eurofighter jets. The funding will come from a mix of the regular defense budget and a special defense fund. Delivery of the missiles is scheduled between August 2029 and November 2031, as per an official German statement.

To complement this missile procurement, additional contracts worth approximately €26 million have been approved for the purchase of transport and storage containers to ensure the safe handling and logistics of these missile systems.

Key Features of RAM Block 2B:

The RAM Block 2B is a ship-launched missile system designed for close-range defense, protecting warships from incoming threats such as anti-ship missiles, aircraft, and small boats. Key features of the RAM Block 2B include improved guidance and control systems. These missiles are stored and transported in a Guided Missile Round Pack, which includes the missile itself, a protective container, and a launch interface for integration into ship-mounted missile launchers.
