Germany’s Bundestag Budget Committee recently approved funding for additional Meteor air-to-air guided missiles and other key defense programs, including a new pilot helmet system for Eurofighter jets and training initiatives in the "Digitalization of Land-Based Operations" (D-LBO) project.
The committee has allocated around €521 million for a third batch of Meteor guided missiles, which are integral to the Eurofighter’s combat capability against medium-range targets. These missiles enhance both the Eurofighter’s assertiveness and survivability in air-to-air engagements.
Additionally, the budget committee approved €63 million owards Germany’s contribution to developing and integrating the Typhoon Future Helmet Striker II system, which will replace the 20-year-old Striker I model. This new helmet, a joint project with Great Britain and Italy, aims to improve Eurofighter pilots’ situational awareness and operational readiness, with initial helmet procurement expected by 2027.
The committee also approved a €64 million contract for training under the D-LBO project. This training will be managed by BWIGmbH, the Bundeswehr’s technology partner, and focuses on equipping German land forces with updated communication and information systems.
