AeroVironment Unveils Software Enhancements for Puma UAS to Strengthen GPS-Denied Operations

AeroVironment (AV) has announced Project GOLD, a software update for its Puma 3 AE and Puma LE uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS).

These updates improve the systems' ability to operate in environments where GPS and communication signals are unreliable, unavailable, or jammed.

The updates enhance navigation with advanced Assured Position Navigation and Timing (APNT) capabilities and improved Visual Navigation System (VNS) for GPS-denied operations. Communication security has been strengthened, and the Puma 3 AE’s payload capacity has increased by 60%, supporting up to 6.5 pounds.

The upgrades require no hardware changes, allowing existing Puma systems to be easily updated with a Software Update Kit. New systems will include these features.
