Ukraine’s Brave1 platform recently tested a German-built interceptor drone designed to counter reconnaissance UAVs and Shahed drones.
Brave1, a Ukrainian government initiative launched in April 2023, is working to connect technology companies and developers to create solutions for defense. The platform focuses on reducing risks to Ukrainian forces while addressing enemy threats.
Ukrainian Defense Forces operators conducted the tests to assess the drone’s technological suitability and its performance in modern conflict scenarios.
The German interceptor can reach speeds of 300 kilometers per hour and has a range of 20 kilometers. Although full technical details remain undisclosed, plans are in place to enhance the drone with an automatic guidance system powered by machine vision.
Brave1 is facilitating collaboration between the German manufacturer and Ukrainian developers to explore potential upgrades and applications of the interceptor.
In late November, Brave1 also oversaw the testing of the Hitchhiker interceptor drone, developed by U.S.-based companies IronNet and Asterion Systems. The Hitchhiker is designed to neutralize UAVs, including Shahed drones, and has a range of 200 kilometers with a top speed of 450 kilometers per hour.
The developers of the Hitchhiker have proposed a jet-powered version to target faster air threats. According to the manufacturers, this interceptor could offer a lower-cost alternative to conventional air defense systems in combating kamikaze drones.
