Safran Aircraft Engines has finalized the acquisition of Component Repair Technologies (CRT), a key player in aircraft engine part repairs.
Based in Mentor, Ohio, CRT employs over 450 people and is recognized for its expertise in repairing large engine components such as cases and rotating parts. This acquisition is part of Safran Aircraft Engines' ongoing investment strategy, which includes a €1 billion initiative to expand its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) network.
The deal will make CRT the center of excellence for large engine part repairs within the Americas region. This move is in line with Safran’s efforts to address the growing demand for MRO services, particularly for the 32,000 CFM56 and LEAP engines currently operational worldwide. Jean-Paul Alary, CEO of Safran Aircraft Engines, emphasized that the acquisition aligns with the company's industrial strategy of establishing world-class repair facilities close to customer needs while minimizing its carbon footprint.
CRT will continue its role in repairing engine parts for Safran Aircraft Engines' customers, which include airline service contracts and other engine manufacturers. Additionally, CRT's integration into Safran’s MRO network further complements other global facilities such as those in France and Mexico. This move also supports Safran’s expanding MRO operations in the Americas, highlighted by recent announcements for new facilities in Querétaro, Mexico.
Richard Mears, President of CRT, expressed pride in joining Safran, stating that the collaboration will enhance both companies' technological expertise and workforce capabilities, adding more value for their customers across the Americas and beyond.
