Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar is setting up a production facility in Morocco, expanding its international footprint after launching operations in Azerbaijan, Ukraine, and Mongolia.
Morocco-based news agency Le Desk reported that the new facility will strengthen Baykar’s position in the African UAV and UCAV market. Morocco is already a customer, having acquired Bayraktar TB2 armed drones.
Establishing production in Morocco is expected to reduce transition times for existing customers and attract new clients due to Baykar’s increased proximity. The facility is likely to manufacture the Bayraktar TB2, the Akinci, and possibly the Kizilelma jet-powered UCAV.
In 2021, the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) acquired 13 Bayraktar TB2 drones in a $70 million deal. Deliveries of additional UAVs are set to begin in February 2025. The agreement includes four ground stations, a simulation system, and a drone operations center. Moroccan personnel have received training and technical support in Turkey.
Morocco is reportedly in talks to acquire the Bayraktar Akıncı, further expanding its drone capabilities. Meanwhile, Baykar is also constructing a drone manufacturing plant in Ukraine, expected to produce 120 drones per year.
