Saab UK has officially opened its new manufacturing facility in Fareham, Hampshire, to produce the Giraffe 1X radar and Seaeye underwater sensor systems.
The facility was inaugurated on February 4 by Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds. It consists of a three-building campus that will develop, manufacture, and support Saab’s radar and subsea remotely operated vehicle (ROV) technologies. This includes the Giraffe 1X, a 3D multi-mission radar, and the Seaeye SR20, an all-electric underwater system.
The new site follows Saab’s investment commitment made in 2023 and supports up to 400 jobs. It also offers apprenticeship opportunities and is expected to contribute to both domestic defense programs and international exports. The facility has been positioned as a center for future radar requirements and servicing, including support for in-service radars such as the Giraffe AMB and TAIPAN (Arthur) artillery locating systems.
