Turkish defense company Baykar has introduced an upgraded version of its Bayraktar TB2 drone, known as the TB2T-AI, equipped with a turboprop engine and artificial intelligence.
The company announced that the drone recently completed a series of test flights, reaching an altitude of 9.2 kilometers—a record for the Bayraktar TB2 family. It can climb to 9.1 kilometers in under 30 minutes and reach a top speed of 300 km/h. The maximum take-off weight of the drone has also increased.
The onboard artificial intelligence enables autonomous flight using visual references to the terrain. It can analyze and identify targets, perform autonomous takeoff and landing, and optimize flight routes. Baykar did not disclose whether the updated model includes new combat or payload systems.
Baykar is also expanding its international drone production. The company recently signed an agreement with Indonesia’s PT Republikorp to establish a joint venture for producing 60 Bayraktar TB3 drones and 9 Akinci drones. Similar plans for drone production have also been announced in Morocco.
