China’s domestically developed AG600 amphibious aircraft has completed all pre-certification test flight subjects in Pucheng, Shaanxi, moving closer to obtaining its type certificate, Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) announced on February 28.
The AG600 aircraft No. 1005 completed the final test flight this morning, marking the end of certification-related flight tasks. AVIC stated that efforts will now focus on completing the airworthiness certification process and preparing the aircraft for operational delivery.
Over the past two years, the AG600 underwent research and development, compliance, and certification test flights. This included 2,014 sorties, 10,648 test points, and 3,560 flight hours—setting a record for test flights during the research stage of new large aircraft in China.
The AG600, along with the Y-20 military transport and C919 passenger jet, is part of China’s large aircraft program. It is designed for specialized civil missions, including forest firefighting and maritime search and rescue. AVIC highlighted its role in strengthening China’s emergency response and natural disaster management capabilities.
