Denmark has signed an agreement with Norway to acquire Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) for its Navy frigates, replacing U.S.-made Harpoon missiles previously donated to Ukraine.
The agreement, valued between DKK 900 million ($131 million) and DKK 1,500 million ($218 million), involves purchasing the Norwegian-made naval missiles from defense manufacturer Kongsberg. Denmark’s Ministry of Defence stated the deal would enhance the Navy’s combat power while strengthening Nordic defense cooperation.
Norway’s Minister of Defense, Tore O. Sandvik, welcomed the deal, emphasizing that the new missiles would improve maritime defense and support further cooperation on investments, maintenance, and training.
The Naval Strike Missile is designed to evade enemy radar through "sea-skimming" capabilities and evasive maneuvers. It carries a 500-pound warhead and can strike targets over long distances.
The rapid procurement follows Denmark’s December 2024 decision to acquire new anti-ship missiles due to the evolving security situation.
