The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $91.2 million sale of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System-Alternate Warhead (GMLRS-AW) rounds to Australia.
Australia has requested 54 GMLRS-AW rounds along with telemetry kits, engineering services, technical assistance, and logistics support. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of the proposed sale.
The GMLRS-AW rounds offer a surface-to-surface, all-weather, precision-strike capability. Fired from both the M270 and HIMARS launchers, these rockets can reach targets over 70 kilometers away. More than 60,000 GMLRS rockets have been produced, with a reliability rate exceeding 98 percent.
Lockheed Martin’s facilities in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Australia will be the principal contractors.
