U.S. President Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth today just announced that Boeing in St. Louis will build the new 6th generation fighter, designated as the F-47.
The aircraft, part of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program will be first new fighter jet to be built by Boeing. Its earlier fighter aircraft, the F-15 and the F/A-18 were inherited from McDonnel Douglas Corporation which Boeing acquired in the 1980s.
Making the announcement in the White House, Donald Trump said,"The F-47 will be the most advanced, most capable, most lethal aircraft ever built. An experimental version of the plane has secretly been flying for almost 5 years and we're confident that it massively overpowers the capabilities of any other nation."
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin: The F-47 will be the “crown jewel in the next generation air dominance family of systems.”
Defense Secretary Hegseth: "America is going to have generations in the future of air dominance because of this sixth-generation fighter."
The F-47 is expected to be a replacement for the Lockheed Martin-built F-22 in its air dominance role.
