The U.S. Army has awarded a $435 million contract to Repkon USA, a subsidiary of Turkey’s Repkon, to design, build, and commission a TNT production facility in the United States.

The move is aimed at reestablishing large-scale contract-based TNT manufacturing domestically to support various military systems, including ammunition and grenades.

The new facility will be responsible for developing, supplying, and fielding TNT for the U.S. military, ensuring a steady and reliable supply of explosives for lethal munitions. The project reflects the Pentagon’s broader efforts to secure critical supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign sources for key defense materials.

In a separate but related development, BAE Systems and Repkon USA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development and manufacture of advanced munitions. The agreement aims to enhance the range, precision, and performance of ammunition while exploring ways to scale up the production of propellants and explosives through advanced manufacturing techniques.

BAE Systems, the primary ammunition supplier for the U.K. Ministry of Defence, has already been investing in ramping up 155mm artillery shell production since 2023 to meet growing demand.
