The Avalon Airshow resumed on Saturday after a stunt plane crash involving veteran pilot Glenn Collins during an aerobatic display on Friday evening.

Collins, a member of Paul Bennet Airshows' Sky Aces team, crashed his Pitts aircraft on the tarmac around 5:15 p.m. while attempting a manoeuvre. He was airlifted to Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Paul Bennet Airshows confirmed Collins' identity and expressed gratitude for the medical staff and global messages of support. The team has withdrawn from the event but encouraged spectators to enjoy the remaining airshow.

The incident, which occurred at a significant distance from the audience, prompted an Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigation. Officials are examining flight data, pilot history, and aircraft maintenance records.

Witnesses described the aircraft attempting to pull out of a dive before crashing. "It got very low, and when it went for it this time, it just crashed into the ground," a witness was quoted as saying by reports.

The airshow, Australia’s largest aviation event, was temporarily halted on Friday but reopened on Saturday morning. However, flying displays were delayed to allow investigators access to the crash site.

Authorities have urged anyone with footage of the incident to assist in the investigation.
