Russian tank manufacturer Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) predicts that future tanks will be modular, manned or unmanned, and equipped with more powerful weapons and improved protection to counter evolving battlefield threats.
Igor Meshkov, a board member of UVZ, stated that tanks must continue to deliver direct firepower while withstanding advanced anti-tank weapons, artillery, and drone attacks.
"The need for such a combat vehicle will not disappear. Therefore, the tank of the future, as today, must retain its basic qualities: it is a maneuverable, all-terrain vehicle on tracks with the ability to be equipped with powerful cannon armament, with a rotating turret and with the strongest protection among armored vehicles," Meshkov noted.
Future designs will include multi-layered defense systems, integrating passive and active armor, electronic warfare, and laser-based countermeasures.
UVZ is also working on improving tank engines to enhance power efficiency while reducing fuel and oil consumption.
