Organizers of the Defexpo 2010 exhibition in Delhi have set a new trend in show daily distribution by putting a hefty price on the rights to distribute the show daily and other print media inside the venue. For the first time in any defense and aerospace exhibition around the world, any publisher desirous of circulating his magazine or show daily will have to purchase the rights from the Defense Exhibition Organization (DEO). Accordingly, four categories have been created- show daily, show bulletin, show magazine and show flyer. The distribution rights for each vary from INR 30,00,000(US$70,000) for the show daily which has the highest visibility to INR10,00,000 (US$25,000) for the show flyer which is at the bottom of the four-rung show daily/magazine hierarchy at Defexpo 2010. The Show Daily will be allowed to be distributed at all venues/events during the four-day Defexpo 2010 exhibition and conference and can be published every day. The Show Bulletin only in exhibition halls and not at any other venue, the Show Magazine, only one issue of which will be allowed to be published, can be distributed at all exhibition halls, inaugural ceremony, media lounge, press conference, seminar, delegation lounge, entrance gate, cafeteria, VIP lounge and food courts. The show flyer can be distributed only in the exhibition halls. Restrictions on paper size have also been imposed on each of the four print media. Informed sources said that the decision had been taken as during previous events, the publication which bought the official show daily rights was at a disadvantage as other media freely distributed their show dailies earning hefty ad revenue and not giving back anything to the organizer and competing with the official show daily for distribution. “There will be no free media distribution anymore. Anyone wanting to distribute magazines inside the venue will have to purchase any of the four rights”, said an official source.
