Patria NEMO Mortar Systems to Be Integrated into New Lynx IFV Variant for Hungary

Patria has signed a supply agreement with Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH and Rheinmetall Hungary for the delivery of its turreted 120 mm NEMO mortar systems, which will be integrated into a new variant of the Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle under Hungary’s Zrinyi defence programme.

The agreement includes the delivery of at least 24 mortar systems and marks another step in the ongoing collaboration between Finland’s Patria and Germany’s Rheinmetall. The companies are working jointly to strengthen the firepower and tactical flexibility of Hungary’s armoured vehicle fleet.

A statement from Patria described the NEMO as a lightweight, remote-controlled mortar turret capable of both direct and indirect fire with high levels of automation and responsiveness. It includes a semi-automatic loading system, enabling rapid fire support and shorter engagement times during combat operations.

Patria confirmed that the system is designed for integration on multiple platforms, offering mobility and firepower in both urban and open combat environments. The NEMO’s automated fire control also enhances operational efficiency while reducing crew exposure.

A successful integration trial of the NEMO turret on the Lynx KF41 was conducted by Rheinmetall in September 2024. The tests validated the system’s compatibility with the platform, ensuring that the new variant meets the Hungarian Army’s technical and operational requirements.

Rheinmetall said the integration will expand the Lynx KF41’s mission roles by adding indirect fire capabilities, which were previously not part of its core configuration.
