India deployed its Rafale jets which fired SCALP precision missiles and AASM Hammer precision bombs at Pakistani targets killing some 70 terrorists and injuring 60 others.
According to a joint Indian Army and Air Force briefing today, the Indian jets did not cross Pakistani airspace debunking Islamabad's claims that three Indian jets had been shot down over Pakistani airspace.
Also deployed were loitering munitions. The operation which lasted from 1:05 AM to 1:30 AM was based on credible intelligence that confirmed the use of the sites in cross-border terrorism, the officers said at the briefing.
According to official briefings, the precision strikes were "focused, measured, and non-escalatory", targeting terrorist bases while deliberately avoiding Pakistani military facilities to minimise the risk of wider conflict.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally selected the operation’s codename “Sindoor”, symbolising the red vermilion worn by married Hindu women, in a poignant tribute to the widows created by the Pahalgam attack.
