The U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Bosnia and Herzegovina for AW-119Kx helicopters and associated support equipment, valued at an estimated $100 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) formally notified Congress of the proposed deal today.
The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina has requested a comprehensive package that includes AW-119Kx helicopters, pilot and maintainer training, technical assistance, aviation ground support equipment, test and quality assurance services, and engineering and logistics support. The package also covers spare parts, special tools, technical manuals, and air freight delivery.
According to the DSCA, “The proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by enhancing the security of a partner country that contributes to political stability and economic progress in Europe.”
The helicopters are expected to bolster the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH)’s capacity for search and rescue missions, disaster relief, and humanitarian assistance, in addition to pilot training.
Leonardo Helicopters U.S., through its AgustaWestland Philadelphia Corporation facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will serve as the principal contractor for the program.
