The U.S. government has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Poland of Boeing GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs (SDB-I) for an estimated $180 million.
The package, which includes bombs, training equipment, logistical support, spare parts, and other related services to enhance Poland's air-to-ground strike capabilities, was officially reported to Congress by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) today.
Poland has requested the purchase of 1,400 GBU-39/B SDB-I precision-guided munitions and four GBU-39 (T-1)/B inert practice bombs with fuzes.
The package also includes a range of non-lethal items and services such as tactical training rounds, practice bombs, bomb components, containers, weapons system support, spare parts, software, publications, personnel training, and logistics support.
According to the DSCA, the proposed sale will contribute to U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the defense capabilities of a NATO ally. "This sale will improve Poland’s capacity to conduct effective air-to-ground operations, bolster its ability to defend its territory, and help meet NATO defense requirements," the agency said in its statement.
