The South Korean Army announced on Thursday that 16 Polish soldiers have arrived in Korea to begin training on the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system.
The two-week program follows Poland’s recent purchase of the advanced weapons platform from South Korea.
Training began on May 15 at a military facility in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, approximately 30 kilometers north of Seoul. It involves both Polish personnel and South Korean trainees.
According to the Army, the program focuses on mastering the Chunmoo’s strike capabilities, nighttime maintenance procedures, and other tactical operations associated with the system.
This initiative follows Poland’s major contract with Hanwha Aerospace, a leading South Korean defense company, signed in April 2025 for the acquisition of 218 Chunmoo systems. This builds on a previous agreement in 2024 for 72 additional units.
The South Korean military stated that it plans to expand similar training programs for personnel from other countries that have purchased Korean defense systems, such as the K9 self-propelled howitzer and the K2 main battle tank.
Poland has significantly strengthened its defense posture since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, signing multiple arms agreements with South Korea in 2022. These include contracts for FA-50 light combat aircraft, K2 tanks, and K9 howitzers.
