The Danish Ministry of Defence has selected the SAMP/T NG medium-range air defence system developed jointly by France and Italy.

This strategic choice will provide Denmark with a next-generation air defense capability to protect its territory and population from constantly evolving air threats.

The decision to have such a modern ground-based air defense system, interoperable with the systems of our allies, strengthens European security and NATO's collective defense.

As this strengthens Franco-Danish defense cooperation, the French Armaments Directorate General (DGA) and the Air and Space Force are fully mobilized to support and work with their Danish counterparts.

In service with the French Air and Space Forces and the Italian Army, the SAMP/T provides a medium-range surface-to-air defense capability against aircraft and certain theater ballistic missiles. It was developed as part of a cooperation between France and Italy by the Franco-Italian economic interest group Eurosam.

Launched in 2021, the SAMP/T NG program responds to the need to develop our ground-to-air defense capabilities in a context of increasing threats, faster, more maneuverable, more stealthy and implemented in increasingly complex contexts.

It aims to modernize the fire control of the SAMP/T system, in particular by integrating a latest-technology radar adapted to the capabilities of the future Aster 30 B1 NT Extended Capability missile . The SAMP/T NG will be commissioned in 2026.
