Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) rolled out the design of a new electronic warfare aircraft on September 17 at the 2025 Electromagnetic Warfare Workshop in Seoul.
At the event, KAI outlined its proposal for the 1.77 trillion won ($1.27 billion) electronic warfare aircraft (Block-1) system under the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).
The platform is based on the Bombardier G6500 jet, equipped with side-mounted electronic warfare systems developed with Hanwha Systems to reduce performance drag while maximizing jamming power. KAI said its configuration reaches the standard of the U.S. Air Force’s EA-37B, one of the most powerful systems currently in service.
By drawing on four decades of aircraft programs including the KF-21 fighter and Peace Eye surveillance aircraft, KAI emphasized that this project demonstrates South Korea’s ability to integrate mission-specific avionics without outside dependence.
The aircraft is also designed to evolve into future variants, including AI-enabled platforms.
