Poland Signs $800M Deal for Mobile Communication Nodes in Air Defense Expansion

Poland has signed a contract worth over PLN 2.9 billion (nearly $800 million) with Wojskowe Zakłady Łączności No. 1 SA for the delivery of 56 Mobile Communication Nodes (MCCs) to support the second phase of the Wisła air defense program.

The agreement, signed on September 24 in Zegrze in the presence of Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, is part of Poland’s push to build a multi-layered defense system against drones, missiles, and aircraft.

“This is an important moment when we sign another contract with a Polish company, with Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), with the Polish arms industry,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said. “We are building a multi-layered air defense system for the Polish state — an anti-drone shield, an anti-missile shield.”

The Wisła program is the flagship modernization effort of the Polish Armed Forces, designed to integrate NATO-compatible technologies. MCCs are seen as a key element, ensuring secure, encrypted, and interference-resistant communications at tactical and operational levels.

Deliveries are scheduled between 2027 and 2030 and will include logistics and training packages.

Kosiniak-Kamysz highlighted that Poland is developing “the best sensor-to-effector communication capability,” enabling the military to detect and transfer targeting information against potential threats in its airspace.

The PLN 2.9 billion contract is one of the largest in the history of Wojskowe Zakłady Łączności No. 1 SA.
