Bayraktar Kizilelma, Turkey’s first indigenously developed unmanned fighter aircraft, has completed its first live-fire test, striking targets with Tolun and Teber-82 munitions during two separate flights.
Drone maker Bayker said in a statement October 8 that the tests were conducted at the Akinci Flight Training and Test Center in the Corlu district of Tekirdag. The third prototype, Kizilelma PT-3, launched two sorties during the test series.
In its first sortie, the aircraft fired the Tolun precision munition developed by Aselsan, hitting its target with accuracy. During the second flight, it deployed the Roketsan-produced Teber-82 Winged Guidance Kit, destroying another target.
Baykar said the aircraft’s test program is progressing according to schedule, adding that the unmanned fighter has demonstrated improved performance based on lessons learned from earlier prototypes. Structural and avionics upgrades were incorporated into the latest production model, which also features an afterburning engine variant capable of approaching the speed of sound.
With its new aerodynamic design and Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, the Kizilelma is expected to carry out complex combat missions and operate effectively in high-speed, high-maneuver environments.
Launched in 2021 using Baykar’s own resources, the Kizilelma project achieved its maiden flight in December 2022 — roughly one year after production began. Serial production has now started, with the aircraft expected to enter the Turkish Armed Forces inventory in 2026.
During Teknofest 2023, Kizilelma carried out formation flights with Bayraktar Akinci UCAVs and with the Turkish Stars aerobatic team, performing alongside F-16 and F-5 fighter jets over Istanbul — a first in global aviation for an unmanned combat aircraft.
