The Russian Su-75 ‘Checkmate’ Fighter Jet Currently exists only as a mock-up, Rostec, the parent company of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), confirmed today.
Speculation was rife last week that the first prototype of the Su-75 had been built when the UAC posted an image of the single engine stealth jet together with the Su-57 twin-engine stealth fighter on its official Telegram account.
The image showed a technician attending to the aircraft’s underbelly while a Su-57 aircraft is positioned in the foreground.
As part of a media announcement on the 48th anniversary of the Mig-29 figher, Rostec stated, “One could argue that our country (Russia) has developed a new light fighter, the Su-75 Chekmate. However, it currently exists only as a full-scale mockup, whereas many experts believe our Aerospace Forces need such a fighter right now.”
UAC had earlier declared that the Su-75 will enter its prototype stage during 2025-26 and that three prototypes will be built. There has been no official word regarding the progress of the prototypes so far.
