Italy’s Fincantieri Launches First Integrated Underwater Drone System ‘DEEP’

Fincantieri launched its first DEEP underwater drone system on October 23 at the Naval Support and Experimentation Center in La Spezia.

DEEP is designed to protect, develop, and maintain critical underwater infrastructure and port areas, while also performing environmental monitoring. The system integrates underwater sensors for early warning, a Command and Control Center for real-time mission management, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) operating at multiple levels of autonomy, and AI-based data analysis. It is intended for both civil and defense applications.

The launch is part of Fincantieri’s strategy to consolidate its underwater sector through the Underwater Technology Hub, which coordinates civil, military, and dual-use systems.
