Indian defence ministry’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved proposals worth about INR 79,000 crore (~$9 billion) on October 23 to upgrade the capabilities of the Armed Forces.

According to an official press release, the Indian Army will receive the Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II, a Ground Based Mobile Electronic Intelligence System, and High Mobility Vehicles with material handling cranes. These procurements are intended to support operations against enemy armored units, collect electronic intelligence, and improve logistics.

For the Indian Navy, approvals include Landing Platform Docks, 30mm Naval Surface Guns, Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes, Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track Systems, and Smart Ammunition for the 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount. These systems will support amphibious missions, security patrols, and anti-piracy operations. The torpedoes have been developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory of DRDO.

The Indian Air Force will acquire the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation and Destruction System and other equipment. The system is built for autonomous take-off, landing, navigation, detection, and payload delivery.

The Ministry of Defence said the approvals support the goal of strengthening national security.
