Poland has launched construction of a new factory in Kraśnik to produce 155mm artillery ammunition casings.
On October 29, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz attended the cornerstone laying and foundation act signing ceremony at MESKO SA. The facility, located within a 9,000-square-meter hall, will later expand by another 18,000 square meters.
MESKO SA is currently Poland’s only company producing 155mm artillery ammunition casings. The investment forms part of a PLN 2.4 billion ($655 million) capital injection from Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), with PLN 887 million ($240 million) allocated to MESKO to modernize facilities and expand production capacity.
Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the move restores Poland’s industrial sovereignty in ammunition production. “We didn’t have sovereignty in this area, we didn’t have security in this production range. It’s very important that we have full independence,” he said.
