Anduril Industries has officially opened its new Ghost Shark manufacturing facility in Sydney, marking the next phase of Australia’s undersea defense program just seven weeks after securing a A$1.7 billion contract from the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
The milestone coincided with the rollout of the first Ghost Shark Extra Large Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (XL-AUV), which is ready for sea acceptance testing ahead of its planned delivery to the RAN in January 2026.
The 7,400-square-meter facility will serve as the central hub for serial production of the Ghost Shark and its commercial counterpart, the Dive-XL. It integrates robotic manufacturing, AI-based logistics, and a custom in-water test tank designed for buoyancy and systems verification before open-sea trials.
Following an AU$140 million co-development phase that delivered three prototype Ghost Sharks on time and within budget, Anduril is now transitioning to low-rate initial production. Full-scale manufacturing is scheduled to begin in 2026, supported by a network of over 40 Australian small and medium-sized enterprises supplying parts and materials.
The factory is further designed to accommodate future production of Anduril’s Dive-LD and Copperhead families of underwater systems.
