Rostec’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has delivered a new batch of Su-30SM2 multirole fighter jets to the Russian Ministry of Defense, with the aircraft formally accepted by the Russian Navy’s naval aviation crew.
The fighters have completed required ground and flight tests and have now departed for their duty stations, the company said in a statement today.
Rostec said the Su-30SM2 variant features upgraded avionics, a modern electronic warfare system, and compatibility with new air-to-air weapons. The company described the aircraft as highly maneuverable, with expanded performance parameters and a broad weapons load, including long-range options. According to Rostec, the updated electronic warfare suite is designed to counter air-to-air threats.
The company also stated that aircraft of this type have been using all current types of air-to-air weapons and referred to their employment by Air Defense Forces, claiming they had “destroyed hundreds of air and ground targets, including Patriot missile launchers.”
The Su-30SM2 is a modernized development of the Su-30 aircraft operated by both the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Russian Navy. The updated configuration reflects requirements issued by the defense ministry and is intended to expand the aircraft’s operational capabilities.
