Russia’s Su-57 stealth fighter jet exhibited at the Dubai Airshow last week is a production version bearing number 056 unlike previous airshows in India and China where prototype aircraft were flown and displayed.
The aircraft revealed its air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles during the flying displays by opening it underwing and underbelly weapons bays, a feature unique to stealth fighters designed to reduce radar signature.
"It was decided that we would demonstrate the weapons bays in Dubai. Initially, we considered perhaps displaying them on the ramp, but ultimately we decided on in-flight display," said Sergei Bogdan, the test pilot who flew the Su-57.
In response to a question by TASS whether this will attract additional attention from potential foreign buyers; Bogdan said, "I think so, since all aspects related to fifth-generation aircraft are of serious interest to potential buyers. And demonstrating weapons in the cargo compartments is an important factor.
The Su-57E's cargo compartments surprise experts with their size; they are truly impressive. They can accommodate an impressive arsenal of guided weapons for various purposes."
Russian arms export agency, Rosoboronexport announced that the first two Su-57 aircraft had been delivered to a foreign customers without naming the country in question.
