Lockheed Martin has opened a new Hypersonics System Integration Lab (SIL) at its Huntsville campus in North Alabama.

According to Lockheed Martin, the $17.1 million facility was completed in just over a year and is part of the company’s effort to strengthen U.S. leadership in hypersonic technology.

Hypersonic weapons capable of traveling more than five times the speed of sound have become a major focus as global threats evolve.

The17,000-square-foot lab brings together advanced test equipment, simulation tools, and integration capabilities to speed up development for U.S. Army programs.

The facility is part of a larger regional investment. Since 2021, Lockheed Martin’s Strategic and Missile Defense Systems division has invested more than $185 million to expand or upgrade 408,000 square feet of space.
