The Danish Ministry of Defence’s Materiel and Procurement Agency (FMI) has signed a contract with Lockheed Martin to purchase three new TPY-4 air-warning radars.
The systems are capable of detecting and tracking very small flying objects at long distances with high precision.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the TPY-4 is a solid-state, phased-array radar designed for real-time tracking of airborne threats. Its open-architecture design allows it to integrate seamlessly with NATO air and missile defence networks, strengthening regional cooperation and deterrence. The radars will enhance Denmark’s surveillance of its airspace and the North Atlantic region.
The TPY-4 is already in service with Norway and Sweden, improving radar interoperability among Scandinavian allies.
The radar programme also involves close cooperation between U.S. and European industry, including Norway’s Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA), which contributed to the production of the first TPY-4 units in Europe.
Denmark becomes the fifth nation to adopt the system, joining a growing group of NATO partners integrating advanced radar technology.
According to Lockheed Martin, the delivery of three TPY-4 radars, with an option for a fourth, will strengthen the Royal Danish Air Force and support NATO’s collective security.
