Kongsberg has entered a fifth follow-on contract with Japan to deliver the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) for its fleet of F-35A fighter aircraft.
The contract is valued at more than NOK 800 million (around $80 million).
The Joint Strike Missile (JSM) is a stealthy air-launched cruise missile designed for internal carriage on the F-35, supporting both land-attack and anti-ship missions while maintaining low observability. It weighs about 416 kg, carries a 120–125 kg warhead, and flies at high subsonic speed using a Williams International F-415 turbofan. The missile is guided by GPS/INS and an imaging infrared seeker with autonomous target recognition, supports in-flight retargeting via a two-way datalink, and has a range of up to 555 km depending on the flight profile.
