Safran Electronics & Defense has signed a contract with the NATO Helicopter Management Agency for the development of the Eurofl’Eye distributed panoramic vision system for NH90 helicopters operated by France and Spain.
The contract was signed with NHIndustries and Thales to meet requirements set by the French Direction Générale de l’Armement and the Spanish Dirección General de Armamento y Material. The programme focuses on pilot assistance capabilities for military helicopter operations.
Eurofl’Eye is a Distributed Aperture System (DAS) that provides NH90 pilots with a panoramic and detailed view of their surroundings, even in challenging flight conditions (at night, in dust, or in fog). The system combines imagery from six wide-field-of-view infrared cameras and provides a real-time pilot-aligned image directly to the helmet-mounted display TopOwl developed by Thales. It offers a wide and continuous field of view, enhancing pilots’ awareness of their external environment.
The Eurofl’Eye system will be first deployed on French and Spanish NH90 TTH helicopters. Its development phase will leverage the combined expertise of key European industrial players, further strengthening cross-border innovation and operational capability for helicopter fleets across Europe.
