Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has signed separate contracts with the Korea Coast Guard and the National Park Service to supply one Surion multi-purpose helicopter to each agency.
The Coast Guard contract is valued at 38.5 billion won (~$26 million), while the National Park Service contract is worth 32.8 billion won (~$22 million). Both agreements include the helicopter, repair parts, ground support equipment, and pilot and maintenance training.
The Coast Guard helicopter will be equipped with search radar, electro-optical and infrared sensors, and an automatic vessel identification system to support coastal security and safety missions. The National Park Service helicopter will be configured for disaster response and fitted with a newly developed fire suppression water tank with a freshwater capacity of more than 2.5 tonnes.
With these contracts, KAI said it has secured seven Surion helicopter deals in 2025, covering a total of 42 aircraft for public-sector operators. These include units for police, coast guard, forestry, firefighting, and national park agencies, with 28 helicopters delivered so far.
