The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract with Bharat Forge Ltd and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd for the procurement of Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbines for the Indian Armed Forces.
Valued at ₹2,770 crore (approximately USD 333 million), the contract provides for the acquisition of over 425,000 CQB Carbines for the Indian Army and the Indian Navy.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the new carbines will replace existing small arms currently in service, significantly enhancing the lethality, mobility and operational effectiveness of frontline personnel.
Designed for close-quarters combat, the weapon features a compact configuration, high rate of fire and enhanced ergonomics, making it well suited for operations in confined and urban environments.
