France has begun delivering Serval Scorpion support armored vehicles to the French Army after the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) handed over the first 30 units at the end of 2025 under a €1 billion contract covering 530 vehicles.
The order was placed on December 31, 2024, with deliveries starting as the French Army prepares for high-intensity conflict scenarios. The Serval Scorpion support vehicle forms part of the Scorpion modernization program and is designed for battlefield mobility, protection, endurance, and rapid deployment.
The platform’s modular design allows multiple mission-specific variants to be deployed on a common chassis. These include a ground-based air defense version equipped with a turret capable of firing Mistral 3 missiles under armor, and a counter-drone version integrating radar, radio-frequency detection systems, fire-control systems, and a turret-mounted 30×113 mm cannon with dedicated ammunition.
Additional Serval Scorpion variants will operate as tactical communication nodes, including configurations fitted with Syracuse IV satellite communications alongside radio and service-level communication systems.
All 530 vehicles will be delivered in phases through 2033 under France’s Multipurpose Light Tactical Vehicle program. Production is led by KNDS France, with Texelis and subcontractors including MBDA, Safran Electronics & Defense, CS GROUP, and KNDS Ammo France supporting manufacturing across multiple sites.
