Saudi Arabia is considering the potential purchase of Turkish air defense systems following a visit by a senior Saudi military delegation to Turkey’s defense electronics firm, ASELSAN.
Maj. Gen. Abdullah Mesfer Al-Fasili, commander of the Royal Saudi Air Force’s air defense forces, visited ASELSAN facilities on Tuesday, accompanied by a delegation, according to the company’s chief executive. The visit included briefings on ongoing projects, air defense technologies, and areas where future cooperation could be explored.
ASELSAN Chief Executive Ahmet Akyol said the discussions covered existing work and possible new cooperation opportunities between the company and Saudi Arabia. The meetings were held at ASELSAN’s production and development facilities, where the Saudi delegation was presented with the company’s latest systems.
ASELSAN develops military communications equipment, radar systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and air defense technologies used by Turkey’s armed forces and exported to international customers.
The visit reflects broader expansion in defense industry ties between Turkey and Saudi Arabia in recent years, including cooperation related to unmanned systems and local production initiatives. It also comes as Turkish and Pakistani officials have confirmed talks on a proposed defense framework that would involve Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, potentially adding a multilateral dimension to future defense cooperation.
