The SAMP/T could be inducted into the Swiss Armed Forces as early as 2029, potentially replacing or supplementing the US-made MIM-104 Patriot.

According to Swiss media, France put forward the SAMP/T offer after Switzerland raised concerns over uncertain Patriot delivery timelines. The Swiss Ministry of Defense said it lacks reliable information on confirmed US delivery dates, complicating defense planning.

Switzerland has been without modern long-range air defense since retiring the British Bristol Bloodhound in 1999.

A Defense Ministry spokesman described the situation as an “information vacuum” regarding US contracts.

In this context, the French SAMP/T proposal is seen as a faster option to restore long-range air defense coverage.

Patriot sales have been delayed due to heavy demand, particularly from Ukraine. As a result new customers are facing delays of years.
