An explosion was reported in Abu Dhabi after what the U.A.E. Ministry of Defence described as a “blatant attack” involving Iranian ballistic missiles.
In a statement, the Ministry said U.A.E. air defence systems “dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles.” Authorities also managed the fall of missile debris in a residential area, which resulted in material damage.
The Ministry confirmed that one civilian of Asian nationality was killed due to falling debris.
“The security situation in the U.A.E. remains stable and all concerned entities are monitoring developments around the clock,” the ministry said.
The Ministry strongly condemned the attack and affirmed the country’s rejection of “any targeting of civilian objects, facilities and national institutions.” It described the incident as “a dangerous escalation and a cowardly act that threatens the safety of civilians and undermines stability.”
According to the statement, the targeting constitutes “a blatant violation of national sovereignty and international law.” The Ministry said the U.A.E. “reserves its full right to respond to this escalation and to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, citizens and residents, and to safeguard its sovereignty, security and stability.”
The Ministry added that it remains fully prepared to deal with any threats and that all necessary measures are being taken to confront attempts to undermine national security. It said the safety of citizens, residents and visitors remains a top priority.
Authorities urged the public to rely on official sources for information and to avoid spreading rumors or unverified reports.
