The U.S. Department of State has approved an urgent Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Israel to buy munitions and Munitions Support costing $151.8 million.
The Government of Israel has requested to buy twelve thousand (12,000) BLU-110A/B general purpose, 1,000-pound bomb bodies.
These bombs are used to penetrate handened concrete shelters and have been used in the recent assasination of Iranian supreme leader and his top commanders.
Israel is currently conducting a sustained bombing campaign against Iran which perhaps explains the urgency of the request.
The Secretary of State has determined and provided detailed justification that an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale to the Government of Israel of the above defense articles and defense services is in the national security interests of the United States, thereby waiving the Congressional review requirements under Section 36(b) of the Arms Export Control Act.
The proposed sale will improve Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats, strengthen its homeland defense, and serve as a deterrent to regional threats.
The principal contractor will be Repkon USA, located in Garland, Texas. Part of the BLU-110 A/B requirement will be transferred from (U.S.) stock.
The BLU-110 is a 1,000-pound class general-purpose bomb, often used with precision guidance kits like the Spice 1000. It is commonly used for precision strikes against structures and, when equipped with guidance kits, offers significant stand-off range.
