The two companies plan to establish a joint venture to commercialize the results of joint development and grow it into a defense technology giant like U.S. based Anduril.

Hanwha Aerospace  announced today that it has signed  a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korean gaming gaint, Krafton, the maker of PUBG: Battlegrounds’ for the joint development of AI  technology in defence and the establishment of a joint venture.

The two companies will pursue joint R & D of core physical AI technologies, review of demonstration and application scenarios, and establishment of technology and operational systems.

Moving forward, they plan to commercialize the results of joint development through the establishment of  the JV and build a mid-to-long-term cooperation framework.

This collaboration is being pursued by combining Hanwha Aerospace’s defense and manufacturing infrastructure and  unmanned systems technology with Krafton’s AI research capabilities and software development expertise.

Leveraging its weapon system operational capabilities, Hanwha Aerospace plans to enhance the sophistication of its physical AI technology operating in real-world environments.

"In the future, we will establish a joint venture with Hanwha to commercialize the results of joint development and grow the joint venture into a global defense technology company like Anduril ," said  Kim Chang-han, CEO of  Krafton .

Hanwha Aerospace, Krafton to establish $1 Billion Investment fund

 Both companies are also participating as investors in a fund established by Hanwha Asset Management. The fund focuses on investing in  the AI,  robotics , and  defense sectors ,  with a target size of $  1 billion.

Through investments in promising technologies and companies, the fund aims to expand the physical  AI  ecosystem. Furthermore, based on the fund, they plan to identify partners with high growth potential across the entire core value chain and  connect them to joint development and commercialization.
