Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announces execution of the 66th wave of its retaliatory operation with multiple “super heavy” missile systems targeting locations across Israel and occupied territories besides US military positions in the region.
In a statement on Friday, the Corps' Public Relations Office said the latest phase carried out “successful” striking against targets in the heart and south of Israel, including the city of Tel Aviv, as well as bases of the US military in the region on Thursday night.
The statement detailed the use of a combination of solid- and liquid-fuel missile systems, including super-heavy, precision-guided, multi-warhead Qadr missiles as well as Khorramshahr and Kheibar Shekan missiles and medium-range Qiam projectiles.
The 66th stage also involved deployment of Zolfaqar missiles and attack drones, it noted.
Hit on Israel confirmed: Hareetz
The missile launched last Thursday night was likely a Khorramshahr model – an Iranian ballistic missile fitted with a warhead that disperses up to 80 bomblets, each containing only a few kilograms of explosives. The interception attempt failed, and the bomblets fell across the greater Tel Aviv area. Seven struck populated locations along a 27-kilometer stretch, from Peduel in the West Bank to Holon on the Mediterranean coast. The rest fell in open areas, Israeli media, Hareetz reported but made no mention of casualties.
“In addition to three conventional ballistic missiles that struck populated areas, 11 cluster missiles have penetrated Israel's air defense system since the war began, according to a Haaretz analysis. By comparison, only three cluster missiles struck Israel in last year's war with Iran. Security officials estimate that Iran has launched about 250 at Israel in the current war – roughly half of them were cluster missiles.”
